Acts 2: Revitalizing the Church to Expand its Mission

by Alton Garrison
President, AGTrust
Assistant General Superintendent

Recently, Dr. George O. Wood and I were discussing the state of the U.S. Assemblies of God. Some statistics are alarming. Out of 12,800 U.S. AG churches, 8,000 are plateaued or declining. One million people worship in those (plateaued and declining) congregations weekly.
However, during the past four years, Mike Clarensau, senior director of the Assemblies of God Healthy Church Network, has been at the helm of the AGTrust Revitalization Initiative and we have made great strides in responding to this need.
We have seen nearly 400 churches in 20 AG districts complete the Acts 2 Journey, with 95 percent of the pastors saying their church was helped and blessed by the process.
A few months ago, when Mike transitioned to serve as dean of Bible and Church Ministries at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Waxahachie, Texas), Dr. Wood requested that I, as assistant general superintendent, assume leadership of the Revitalization Initiative.
Since my time as Arkansas district superintendent (2001-2005), I have had tremendous passion to help churches reach their kingdom potential by becoming healthy and missional. It is God's will for His church to be healthy, to accomplish His great call.
You can see from the Acts 2 Journey testimonies below, God is multiplying our efforts. We could not have accomplished this without your partnership. Your gifts to AGTrust have provided scholarships for 156 churches to help offset their cost to participate in the year-long Acts 2 Journey process to become healthier. Thank you for your faithful investment in the future of this Fellowship.

Here's what pastors are saying about their Acts 2 Journey to a healthier church!

Pastor Kirk Strand
Brandon Valley Assembly
Sioux Falls, S.D.

"Our church was strong and growing a few years ago when a nationwide economic crisis hit. We had planned the next building expansion and the week we were to close on the loan, the federal government stopped the lending of funds and we were left questioning what to do next.
"Someone suggested the Acts 2 Journey (A2J) might help our church find new direction, and it did. During the one-year process, the A2J personnel helped us take a fresh look at the ministries of our church and set new objectives. Today our church is changed, our purpose is focused, and the community of Brandon is responding. Before the A2J, our church averaged about 225-240 in attendance. In December 2014, we averaged 513. Our finances reflect the same growth and our future is bright."

Pastors Tyler and Traci Crowder
New Life Assembly of God
Bedford, Ky.

"I highly recommend the Acts 2 Journey to EVERY pastor who would like to take their church and leadership to the next level. The practical application this process offers and the level of investment by every member of the vision team are much more valuable than any cost incurred.
"Quite simply, the decision to participate in the Acts 2 Journey is the best one our leadership team has made to this point!"

Thank you for your investment in AGTrust today that is building stronger AG churches for future generations.
